Vinyl Nights @ Terraza 7 / Trans-Atlantic Grooving

Trans-Atlantic Grooving

Every Thursday @ 10pm Camilo Rodriguez, “A.K.A. Niño Lento”, spinning Vinyl records from Colombia to Angola in the heart of Jackson Heights/ Elmhurst @ Terraza 7

Camilo Rodriguez traveled roughly 2,496 of them. That’s the distance between where he grew up (Bogota, Colombia) and where he discovered his adult voice (Jackson Heights, Queens). “When I came to New York, I needed to find out who I was in the middle of all this madness,” Rodriguez says. “I found out through the music of where I came from.” Specifically, he found himself through the rhythms of cumbia, mapale and bullerengue that course through Colombian life. Though Rodriguez spent his first 19 years in that South American country, he didn’t pay careful attention to its rich sonic trove. –NEW YORK DAILY NEWS–
