Colombian pianist Carolina Calvache, and Mexican Drummer and vocalist Karina Colis collaborate together to present The New Latin Collective, a new sound that brings a unique interpretation of Latin American songs, along with original compositions influenced by jazz and world rhythms.
Born in Cali Colombia, Carolina Calvache is an exceptional young pianist and the first Colombian to be part of the roster of recording artists of the prestigious New York music label, Sunny Side Records. Since her selection for the 2011 Mary Lou Williams Woman in Jazz Festival for outstanding artists, Carolina brought attention at The Kennedy Center for PerformingArts in Washington, DC. In 2014 Carolina reaffirms herself to the Jazz world with her debut recording, Sotareño, released on Sunnyside records. Sotareño shows fabulous collaborators, including saxophonist Jaleel Shaw, trumpeter Michael Rodriguez, bassist Hans Glawischnig and drummers Ludwig Afonso and Grammy award musician Antonio Sanchez.
Karina Colis is a versatile drummer, percussionist, and vocalist from Mexico based in New York City. Her work is characterized by a diversity of rhythms and styles, combining the roots of various Latin/South American traditions with elements of Jazz, Afro Cuban, Fusion and Pop. Most of her compositions are featured on Raw Travel Channel. Some of her highlight performances and appearances include the Montreal Jazz Festival, in Canada, Moma Museum of Art, Primavera Festival in Barcelona, The Kennedy Center and Blue note Jazz Festival to name a few. Karina has also collaborated and performed with acclaimed international artists Juan Luis Guerra, Esperanza Spalding, Thalia (telethon 2014) Paquito D Rivera, Edmar Castaneda, Gregorio Uribe, acclaimed percussionist Giovanni Hidalgo, Luisito Quintero and has shared stage with Latin American Jazz singer Claudia Acuña, Mexican drummer Antonio Sanchez and mexican composer Armando Manzanero.
