Urgent Indigenous Displacement Camp Calls for International Support and Aid
● What: Press Conference by Indigenous delegation from Colombia regarding the inhumane treatment of an Indigenous displacement camp in Bogota, Colombia
● When: Wednesday April 27, 2022 10am EDT
● Where: 777 UN Plaza, NY NY 3rd floor, PRESS ONLY limited space
● Who: Autoridades Indigenas en Bakata – Indigenous Authorities in Bakata AIB

A convening of local and international press to call out the injustice and human rights violations occurring in the displacement camp of 2,000 Indigenous people from 15 different Colombian communities making up the process of Autoridades Indigenas en Bakata, who have been displaced from their territories due to armed conflict. The local and federal government of Bogota and Colombia have neglected to take action in a manner that is dignified and respectful. Instead they have sent the militarized police ESMAD to attack the camp of mainly children, pregnant and nursing women and elders while simultaneously criminalizing us, watching us starve to death, removing our children from their mothers claiming we’re unfit, while being unwilling to address their culpability in the root of the problem. We are calling on the press to help spread the truth of the inhumanity of what is occurring and apply international pressure to Claudia Lopez, mayor of Bogota and President Ivan Duque to implement our constitutional Indigenous rights and human rights in the face of genocide.
