Nostalgia is a band of Latin American music, formed by musicians who share a passion for connecting with people by evoking emotions of the past. Their music is inspired in traditional boleros from the 50s and 60s, known for its melancholia and romantic lyrics, along with upbeat sones and waltzes, recreating the musical landscape of that time as well as innovating with original songs. These Chilean players, with bandleader Benjamín Schnake on the requinto and vocals, along lead vocalist and guitar player Franco Valdes, and with Fabio Puentes on the percussions, founded the band in 2021 and they have
been performing since then in the New York local music scene. With their last addition of Puerto Rican bass player Dan Martinez during the last year, Nostalgia plans to release their first record production in the spring of 2024.

About Benjamin Schnake:
Benjamín is a musician, multi-instrumentalist, composer, arranger and
educator. Born in Santiago de Chile, he started with classical and popular guitar lessons at the age of 10, and at 13 years old, he began to study charango (Andean small guitar), pan flutes, and quena (Andean flute) with the well-known Chilean musician Danny Rodríguez. At that time, Schnake performed guitar and sang for the “Cantata de Santa María de Iquique” written by the renowned composer Luis Advis with the band Rimay Puka. In addition, he participated at the Festival of Nancagua 2002, Festival of Huaso de Olmué 2003, and won 1st place at the Festival of Alcántara 2005 with the song “El Aparecido” by renowned artist Víctor Jara. At the age of 16, he studied classical guitar and music theory in the School of Music SCD.
Receiving his Bachelor of Music in Composition and Arrangements in 2012 from Arcis University in Chile, he learned mandolin by himself during this time and participated in several traditional festivals and carnivals as a musician: Carnival of Oruro 2007, Oruro, Bolivia; Festival of Virgen de la Candelaria 2008 and 2009, Puno, Perú; Festival of Pascua de Los Negros 2008, La Tirana, Chile; Festival of San Santiago 2014, Santiago de Río Grande, Calama, Chile. After finishing his undergraduate studies, he took private jazz lessons with Gabriel Reyes, Ramiro Molina, and Federico Dannemann.
He has been a bandleader, composer and arranger of Awkiñ Antu, Lakitas
Zampoñaris, El Quinto Invitado, Los Sayas and Huari, performing across Chile.
Schnake has performed as well with the Soundtrack band of the HBO show “Prófugos,” Américo and the Philharmonic Orchestra of Santiago de Chile, and with Los Sayas at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian in 2014 in Washington, DC, and at the Chilean Festival of 2015 in Bethesda, MD. He has released albums with El Quinto Invitado, Los Sayas, and Huari. During this time, he achieved 2nd place at the Festival of Huaso de Olmué 2016 with Los Sayas and 2nd place at the Festival of Osorno 2017 with Huari.
Benjamín started an M.M. in jazz studies in January 2017 at Howard University in
Washington, DC. Then, he transferred to New York University in Manhattan, NY,
studying guitar and composition with some of the greatest musicians of the New York scene: John Scofield, Peter Bernstein, Adam Rogers, Alan Ferber, Gil Goldstein, Alan Broadbent, among others. Working there, Schnake was also an adjunct guitar instructor from September 2017 until December 2018. He earned his Master of Music in Instrumental Performance with a Focus on Jazz Studies in February 2019. At this time, he garnered 1st place at the Festival of Osorno 2019 with Huari. 2021 marked the release of his album titled The Joy of Playing with the Benjamín Schnake Ensemble, featuring well-known NYC musician and NYU teacher Dave Pietro, along with a Grammy awarded post-production team and NYU alumni, the album consists of original compositions and arrangements for nonet and small ensembles, in a blend of jazz and South American styles.
Schnake is musically active with his ensemble project as a quartet and quintet in both NYC and Chile, as well as in other projects as a bandleader with Nostalgia, a band of Latin American music performing boleros, sones and waltzes, with Eclectic Charango Beats as a charango player and vocalist including their EP release Desierto Incierto (E.C.B., 2022), and as a guitar player and vocalist with Trio Caliente, performing in NYC, DC, and all across the US East Coast. He has done collaborations with the metal band Non Residents, and he continues to perform with Huari in Chile. His latest award was the 1st place at the Festival of Huaso de Olmué 2023 (2nd biggest one in Chile) as a coarranger for the band Ankaly. He plans to release the first record production of Nostalgia
in the spring of 2024.
