Mediterranean Dialogs-Jazz Jam is a continuation of Terraza’s Jazz-Flamenco Jam, which began 3 months before the COVID pandemic hit NY. The Jazz-Flamenco Jam, whose purpose was to explore the influences of flamenco in jazz, was directed by Manel Fortià and will reappear in 2021.
This new jam will include sounds, styles, and rhythms from throughout the Mediterranean, where the improvisational elements of jazz invite musicians to investigate the ethnic and cultural diversity of this vast region. Musicians from Mediterranean cultures in Southern Europe, Northern Africa, the Middle East, New York, and elsewhere are invited to meet at Terraza 7 to expand Jazz-Flamenco to new and exciting places.
Spanish pianist and composer Albert Marques (Barcelona, 1986) currently resides in Brooklyn where he’s been flourishing in the New York jazz scene after a successful stint in Paris. Marques plays contemporary piano with a distinctive urban feel, unique and profoundly percussive, a mix that has led him to be part of several jazz projects with drummers such as Leon Parker and Ari Hoenig. He has also collaborated with legendary Latin jazz composer Arturo O’Farrill. For this event, Marques will mix the sounds of the NY contemporary jazz scene with Flamenco
