About Yusa :
Yusa is a high-energy Cuban musician who seamlessly blends traditional Cuban forms with modern sensibilities. As a multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, lyricist, arranger, and composer, her music has been described by critic Jan Farley as “the simple sophistication of her music, one knows one is finally hearing 21st-century Cuba.”
Growing up in Alamar by the ocean, Yusa’s surroundings influenced her compositions. She started studying classical guitar at six and became the first graduate from the Amadeo Roldán Music Conservatory specializing in the Cuban “tres” guitar. Despite the “tres” being traditionally tied to Cuban son music and rarely played by women, Yusa brought it into modern settings, incorporating electric bass, keyboards, and percussion.
She co-founded the Cuban music collective Interactivo in 2001 and has since recorded multiple albums, including her self-titled debut “Yusa” (2002), “Breathe” (2005), and “Haiku” (2008). Yusa’s music integrates Cuban sounds with global influences, creating a unique fusion of trova, son, pop, jazz, R&B, and Brazilian rhythms.
Yusa’s innovative approach has earned her international acclaim and collaborations with renowned artists. She continues to perform worldwide, captivating audiences with her distinctive style and musical versatility.
