“Mano que espeja” by Cristina Elena Pardo (Presentation and Reading)
Published this February in Spain by Balduque, the first book of poems by Venezuelan writer Cristina Elena Pardo, Mano que espeja, arrives in New York to be presented and heard. During the reading, the author will be accompanied by poets Almudena Vidorreta (Spain) and Denise Márquez (Venezuela) in an open dialogue about the sounds, processes, and spaces involved in the writing of this collection.
About the book:
“Because of its unconventional reflection about the relationship between gaze and photography, linguistic action and poetry, Cristina Elena Pardo’s piece, from the moment of its foundational opening to the Other, goes beyond any classification. It challenges the brackets, the ways of saying, to constitute a novel figure in the aesthetic renovation that brings the work of authors such as Julia Castillo, Alejandra Pizarnik, Jorge Eduardo Eielson, María Auxiliadora Álvarez, or Emilio Adolfo Westphalen together in an open dialogue, capable of questioning the reflections and the mirrors of normative discourses about poetry. Mano que espeja is the articulation and confirmation of an expressive conquest after which a long meditation about the poetic subject and her depiction is illuminated.”
(Ana Gorría in the Prologue to Mano que espeja)
